Jade Taton Takes All-Around Cowboy at Carbon County Fair Rodeo

The Carbon County Fairgrounds roared to life this weekend as cowboys and cowgirls from across the region competed in the annual PRCA Rodeo. The event, held in Rawlins, saw impressive performances across the board, but it was Jade Taton who emerged as the all-around cowboy, taking home $1,166 for his efforts in bareback riding and saddle bronc riding.

The Carbon County Fairgrounds were alive with the sound of country music this past week as the Bellamy Brothers took the stage, adding their legendary name to a summer lineup that has drawn big-name entertainers to the area.

The sounds of country and rock filled Grand View Park on Saturday, August 3, as Cory Waller and The Wicked Things took the stage during Encampment’s 18th Annual Music in the Park Barbeque Potluck. The event brought together the community for an afternoon of music, food, and fellowship.

Carbon County Fair Director Julie Webb is about to get crazy busy. The Carbon County Fair Parade had just finished on Saturday, August 3 and the Fair was about to get really wild.

That is the theme for this year’s Fair.

Carbon County Veterinarian Dr. Warner McFarland was chosen as the Carbon County Fair Grand Marshall, but said he felt his wife, Amy, was also a part of the honor.

“I have seen other Grand Marshalls in this parade and it always seemed to include the wife,” Warner said. “It is always a team effort; that is how I look at it.”

A King Coal Days Celebration to Remember

The Hanna Miner Memorial Recreation Center saw its last days open as a place that gave a lot of joy to the Hanna community.  

On Friday, July 26, there was a Community BBQ that started at 5 p.m. That evening there was a drum-a-thon contest finishing up with a glow run.

Smooth Operator Excavation Challenge at Fair

The 2024 Carbon County Fair has a new event to challenge those who are not afraid of handling big machinery.

 Very large machinery.

There is a challenge from the Fair about who is the “smoothest” in handling an excavator. Operators will compete against a clock and each other to complete tasks with finesse and expertise. The event superintendent is Paul Clark.

Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering this weekend

Saratoga’s own cowboy musician Daron Little will perform his “Cowpuncher Music” this weekend at the 22nd Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering (GECG) in Encampment. He will be joined by another dozen noted cowboy poets and musicians to entertain at Grand View Park, Opera House and Encampment school.

AdventureFest Brings Fun and Excitement to Rawlins

The energy at AdventureFest in downtown Rawlins on July 12 and 13 was truly infectious. Several blocks were cordoned off for pedestrian traffic, creating a safe and festive environment for all attendees. Among the highlights were the train and rescue vehicle rides, where children waved enthusiastically to the crowds as they passed by.

Little Snake River Museum Hosts Electrifying Live Music Event

The Little Snake River Museum came alive Saturday evening with a high-energy performance by Colorado’s Woodland Park, a dynamic country rock and blues band. The event drew a crowd of around 200 people, all eager to enjoy a night of free music and community spirit.
