Mary-Pat Whitfield, a resident of Rawlins, Wyoming, was captivated by the breathtaking sight of a spectacular sunrise painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange, pink, and gold. Unable to resist the urge to immortalize the awe-inspiring scene, Whitfield grabbed her trusty camera and ventured outside to snap several stunning photographs of the sun peeking above the horizon. This image captured by Whitfield showcase the natural beauty of Rawlins and serve as a reminder of the magnificent wonders that can be found in our own backyards when we take a moment to pause and appreciate the splendor of the world around us.

At the Carbon County Comet, we have so much to be thankful for when it comes to the incredible communities, breathtaking natural scenery, and the fascinating array of people, animals, and characters we’ve had the pleasure of encountering on our travels throughout the county over the past year.

From the welcoming small towns and the rugged, awe-inspiring landscapes, to the warm and welcoming locals who have graciously opened their doors to us, every corner of this place has been a true delight to explore. Whether it was the mom-and-pop shops, the hardworking farmers and ranchers, or the friendly neighborhood pets, each person, place, and creature we’ve had the honor of meeting has left a lasting impression and inspired us with their unique stories and personalities.

The more unusual characters - the eclectic collectors, the colorful curmudgeons, the mischievous wildlife - have added so much vibrancy and entertainment to our days out in the field. And while not every photo or anecdote may have made it into the paper, we’ve treasured compiling this visual and written chronicle of our adventures, as it allows us to relive and share the joy and the sheer beauty that defines life in this remarkable region.

As we look back on the past year, we feel truly blessed to call Carbon County our home and to have had the privilege of connecting with its incredible people, places, and creatures along the way.
