Art has a way of bringing people together, sparking conversations and occasionally inspiring someone to take home something they never knew they needed. That was certainly the case during the Saratoga Art Walk on Oct. 15, when downtown businesses opened their doors to celebrate the Platte Valley’s creative community.

Platte Valley Arts Council

The Platte Valley Arts Council is sponsoring the 10th annual Hay Bale Sculpture Contest. Back in September an invitation was sent out to all local ranches, businesses, organizations or families to show off some good ole’ fashioned ranch ingenuity that could give their outfit creative bragging rights for a year.

On April 1, 2022, Encampment resident Nancy Anderson was contacted by Maria Reggiani in an email introducing herself as a French woman who was intrigued by Lora Webb Nichols photography of Encampment. Reggiani was a filmmaker who had by chance come across Nicole Jean Hill’s book titled Encampment Wyoming.

Art will take center stage in downtown Saratoga this October as Range & River Arts presents Fall in Love with Art, a one-night Saratoga Art Walk featuring local and regional artists at 14 businesses throughout the community.

Parco/Sinclair Historical Theater

An evening of laughs is coming to the Parco/Sinclair Historical Theater when Jimmy Glasscock & Company take the stage at 7 p.m. September 19.

Glasscock is a Salt Lake City-based stand-up comedian whose routines draw on personal experiences, everyday observations and the awkward situations that can turn ordinary life into comedy.

Washington Park in Sinclair had masses of people from all over Carbon County and beyond attend the Sinclair Arts and Music Festival on Saturday, August 22.

The parade kicked off a little before 1 p.m. and the festival began, although vendors and food trucks had set up earlier.

A little rain and cooler temperatures helped set the stage for an evening of food, music and community during Riverside Party Day on August 15 at Rick Martin Memorial Park in Riverside.

The free community celebration brought residents, families and friends together for an old-fashioned summer gathering featuring live music from the Poudre Valley Playboys.

The Carbon County Fair with its rodeos and competitions hit a landmark year at 100.

For most people, the Fair kicked off with the Fair Parade, on August 1, but in actuality, it started when all entries for 4-H and the FFA were due by July 13.

Warm temperatures did little to keep spectators away as hundreds lined the streets of downtown Rawlins on August 1 for the Carbon County Fair Parade, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Carbon County Fair & Rodeo.

Long before sunrise each morning, thin ribbons of blue smoke curled above rows of canvas tents behind the Grand Encampment Museum. Cast iron coffee pots simmered over open fires. The smell of wood smoke drifted through camp as men and women dressed in buckskins, homespun shirts and prairie dresses prepared for another day of living history.
