The Valley Service Organization has once again brought holiday cheer to the Upper North Platte River Valley with its annual lighting and decoration contests, crowning Patrick and Stephanie Patterson as this year’s residential champions.

The Rawlins Music Academy’s annual Christmas concert brought festive cheer to the community on Dec. 15, drawing over 100 attendees. Yet, the evening was tinged with bittersweet reflections as the group remembered a longtime member, Jerry Westerfield, who passed away earlier this year.

This past week has been having Carbon County see more and more indicators that Christmas is not far away. There were some large events, such as parades and the Wonka Golden Ticket at the Fair Grounds. These events draw a lot of people.

“The sky dancers, which were aerial acrobats were amazing,” Yvonne Johnson, Carbon County Economic Development Corporation Director said. “They were from Boulder and when I talked to them, they had never seen an event like this.”

In truth, nobody had seen an event like what was offered to Carbon County on December 14, at the Carbon County Fair Grounds Multiplex.

Western Art Exhibition Opens at UW American Heritage Center

“Painted for Illustration: Paintings and Published Western Art from the Collection of Naoma Tate” is now on display at the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center (AHC). The exhibition -- about Western art in its original and published forms -- is on display through Tuesday, April 15.

The Elk Mountain Hotel had a dinner with author C. J. Box as the guest. Guests came from all over, including visitors from Tennessee, Nebraska and Texas. There were plenty of locals too.

Thursday the streets were filled with ghoulies, ghosties and favorite characters from literature, stage, and screens as they haunted the streets on Halloween across the county.

The businesses in Saratoga got together to make a safe, exciting trick-or-treating experience for kids of all ages. Owners and employees dressed for the day in fun costumes.

From November 1 until November 3, there was a murder mystery going on at the Virginian Hotel.

Jet Hospitality promotion director Maddie Benton decided several months ago to do a murder mystery where patrons would be the detectives.
