Tragic Crash Shuts Down I-80

A fatal accident involving two commercial vehicles caused a significant traffic disruption on Interstate 80 last Saturday, the day of the University of Wyoming’s first home football game.

The crash, which occurred at around 9:36 a.m. near milepost 223, halted traffic for miles, leaving travelers stranded for hours. The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) responded to the scene.

Alice Million went to sleep on the Labor Day weekend not knowing her life was about to change dramatically.

The Million family is famous in the demolition derby world building cars that are competitive in the derbies held throughout the country. They regularly compete in the demolition derby held at the Carbon County Fair.

Carbon County to Vote on Special Hospital Tax District in November

Stephanie Hinkle, Director of Strategic Operations and foundation Director of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) said in mid-August that about two months prior, requested the Carbon County Commissioners to have a special hospital district.   

The Commissioners approved the Special Tax District Initiative to be put on the November ballot on August 6.

Over the Labor Day holiday, the City of Rawlins’ in town water infrastructure experienced six breaks due to aging infrastructure and a slightly elevated pressure event.  

Despite undergoing regular maintenance, a pressure reducing valve failed. Although pressure remained within normal limits, due to our aging infrastructure, breaks occurred at weak points.

Carbon County Sees Strong Voter Turnout

All 19 precincts in Carbon County have reported their results for the 2024 primary elections on August 20, with a total voter turnout of 60.21% among registered Republicans, 54.41% for Democrats, and 28.15% for non-partisan voters. Of the 5,388 registered voters in the county, 2,589 Republicans, 333 Democrats, and 134 non-partisan voters cast their ballots.

 

 

Carbon County Coordinator Leads Dam Tour for Emergency Management

Lenny Layman, Emergency Management Coordinator for Carbon County, led an emergency management tour on August 15 of Seminoe and Kortes dams. 

Thirty-two individuals from Carbon, Natrona, and Albany counties, along with some state officials, participated in the tour.
