The weather in Carbon County is not like last year at this time. Snow, cold and wind seemed relentless. Roads were closed often and people in their communities found themselves trapped for days on end. This year, recent days have been in the high 30s or low 40s.

On the crisp night of Wednesday, December 6, the downtown streets of Rawlins came alive with the spirit of the season. The slightly windy weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm of parents and kids who lined the streets in anticipation of a dazzling spectacle.

Santa Claus Kicks off Christmas Season with pancakes and llamas

Santa Claus is starting his rounds early to take in the requests for kids this year. He was seen at the Pajama/Pancake Breakfast this Saturday at the Elk Mountain Hotel. The breakfast started at 8:30 a.m. and finished at 10 a.m.

As we move closer to the Yule Tide and the sweaters, and warmer clothing come out, everybody is finding that one sweater (two or three for some people) that only comes out when nobody is looking. It is a seasonal gift and probably a bit funny. The ugly sweater is a phenomenon that has embedded itself in the Christmas traditions of many American families.

Carbon County Visitors’ Council (CCVC) conducts two photo contests per year. The 2023 Photo Contest was launched last winter, and all entries were due by September 30th, 2023. At the October 2023 CCVC dba Discover Carbon County Wyoming Board of Directors judged a total of 43 photo entries.

Kyle Warren had heard rumors a bobcat was hanging around an abandoned house in Elmo, a section of Hanna. The winter had been extremely hard and the house provided shelter for the bobcat and her two kittens.

Driving down Interstate 80 by the town of Sinclair, the lights of the refinery are always eye-catching when dark takes over. But on December 17, another head-turner just came to light. The town of Sinclair illuminated its Christmas tree.
