The Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests are lighting up with fall colors — from the brilliant golden-yellow hues of Aspen leaves to the blaze orange of hunters’ vests. If you are leaf-peeping along scenic byways or swapping hunting stories over the warm glow of a campground fire this fall, we want to hear from you on proposed recreation fee changes.

A driver on Friday, September 22, going down US 30 towards Medicine Bow, at the intersection where 487 meets this section of the Old Lincoln Highway, would have seen four green trucks parked. These trucks belonged to the Fish and Game Department and a Check Station for antelope hunters was in full operation.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service announced mid July that it is investing $2,040,000 in projects to reduce wildfire risk and restore healthy forests through the Good Neighbor Authority.

This month had brought us a more interesting sky than usual. While the County Fair was punctuated by a Sturgeon Super Moon, the start of the school year brings us something more rare. A Super Blue Moon happens about every 10-14 years and won’t be along again until March of 2037.

As August began, the night sky over Carbon County Fair was adorned with a breathtaking celestial spectacle. The Sturgeon Moon, also known as August’s Full Moon, made its closest visit to Earth, casting a radiant glow over the landscape and punctuating the closing night of the much-awaited Ranch Rodeo.
