On Friday, September 11, the Elk Mountain 4-H Club hosted its annual pancake dinner for the Elk Mountain community at the Community Hall, raising funds to support the local clubhouse. 

Carbon County Bands Take the Field at UW

The University of Wyoming’s marching band, Western Rolling Thunder, combined with marching bands from all over the State, on Sept. 12 at halftime.

Two bands from Carbon County participated.

Rawlins High School marching band, the Outlaws Stampede and Rawlins Middle School went to this event as did Hanna, Elk Mountain, and Medicine Bow (HEM) High School.

RMS Students Campaign for Council

Students at Rawlins Middle School are electing a council come September 17.

The president is likely to be Kiara Debruyn because she is the only student running for that position.

New AD at RMS

Charlie Heatherington has been working at Rawlins Middle School (RMS) as a P.E. teacher for 12 years but has recently been put in the position of Athletic and Activities Director (AD).

Some years before, RMS Principal Ryan Puckett had been helping then-Rawlins High School (RHS) AD, Denver Allard, but Heatherington said the position was formalized this year at RMS.

HEM FCCLA Brings Home Five National Medals

“We took five students to FCCLA Nationals in Washington D.C. in early July and all were seniors,” Jennifer Bowen, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) teacher at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School said. “Because they were not coming back to school, we did a lot of tourist things.”

Willford Named CCSD2 Teacher of the Year

Kegan Willford was named Teacher of the Year last May for Carbon County School District No 2 (CCSD2) and it was celebrated in the classroom at Encampment High School where he teaches, but it was a subdued affair because at the beginning of school this year, both the Employee of the Year and the Teacher of the Year were announced.

At the end of the school year, Mary George was named Employee of the Year by Carbon County School District No 2 (CCSD2) and there was a celebration at Hanna Elementary, where she works as the school secretary.

It was almost a quiet announcement because at the beginning of the school year, it was announced again.

New Educators Join CCSD2 Team

A sure sign that summer is fading away is the beginning of the new school year. Carbon County School District No 2 (CCSD2) started meetings with teachers in the first week of August.

Along with teachers who have returned, these meetings introduce new faculty who are taking on positions at CCSD2.

The University of Wyoming will welcome nearly 1,200 students and their families during residence hall move-in Friday, Aug. 21, from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 22, from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Community members should expect increased traffic around campus throughout the event, along with temporary road closures to ensure the safety of students, families, volunteers and staff.
