Seven Teams Battle on the Mat at Carbon County Wrestling Invite

Saratoga High School hosted seven teams at the Carbon County Wrestling Invite on February 13. 

The Carbon County wrestling teams from Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM), Rawlins and Saratoga were in attendance along with Big Piney, Dubois, Glenrock and Niobrara County.

Jesse Solaas, Head Coach for HEM was happy to have his team attend the Invite.

The mats were busy and the gym was loud as seven teams converged for the Rawlins Rumble in Wrestling, and when the final dual wrapped up, the Rawlins Outlaws had done what they set out to do — defend their home mat with authority.

Building Stronger Students One Summer at a Time

Joel Moline, a social studies teacher at Rawlins Middle School and also a coach there and at Rawlins High School, started teaching and working out with weights in the summer three years ago.

His first year of doing this, he had boys and girls together.

Both Carbon County School Districts have reason to be happy with their wrestling programs.

Saratoga and Rawlins High School wrestling teams went to Ron Thon, the biggest tournament in Wyoming and faced 38 girls wrestling teams and 39 boys wrestling teams.

The Tigers lost their rival Valley team on January 15 at Encampment. The Saratoga team won 54 to 31. Then, the next home game, the Tigers lost to Southeast Tornadoes 18 to 54. The season has not been easy for Encampment and their next game will be tough. They face Cokeville on January 23.

The Miner wrestling team had two wrestlers win it all at the Don Runner Memorial, which is a large tournament consisting of nine teams.

Head Coach Jesse Solaas was pleased with the results.

McKnees Claims Third Championship at the Shane Shatto Tournament

Saratoga’s wrestling team was sidelined this week as illness ran through the lineup.

Head Coach Rusty Arnold said most of the team was out with the flu, forcing the Panthers to sit out the competition.

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) girls team did make the trip to Glenrock on Jan. 9 for the Shane Shatto Tournament.

New Year Brings Mixed Results for Area Hoops Teams

The Tigers lost to Ft. Washakie on January 10 by a score of 28 to 39. A couple of days later, the Encampment faced HEM on January 13 on their home turf. This game was also a loss for the Tigers. The score was 40 to 53 with the Miners taking home the win.

Wrestling in the New Year

The Saratoga High School wrestling team has already gone to matches in the new year. But before January 3, the team wrestled in mid-December.

Head wrestling coach Rusty Arnold said, “So we wrestled in Kemmerer December 19 and 20. We had a great tournament with a lot of matches.”

He pointed out that Ace Arnold and Poppy Anderson both won the tournament. 

Holiday Tournaments Test Area Teams on the Court

The Tigers lost to Southeast on December 19 by a score of 46 to 55 at the Goshen County Tournament and won later against Guernsey-Sunrise 60 to 28. On December 20, the Encampment team had to forfeit their next two games against Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Niobrara County. The Tigers are 3 and 5 overall.
