The Rawlins High School girls soccer team dominated in their 5-0 victory over Pinedale on Tuesday. Malene Nielsen led the offensive charge, scoring an impressive hat trick to earn the team’s offensive #GRIT player of the game honors. Nielsen was assisted on one of her goals by Nataly Pineda.

Track is Back

On Saturday, March 22nd, the Rawlins outdoor track team traveled to Fort Collins to compete in our first meet of the season. 

“We competed against 30 other teams from the Colorado and Wyoming area making it one of the biggest meets we will attend this year,” Rawlins track coach Hayden Hohnholt said. “Due to spring break,only about half the team traveled to the meet.”

Both University of Wyoming Nordic ski teams had rousing starts to begin the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Collegiate Championships in Bend, Ore., Tuesday, with the Cowboys claiming the national lead on the opening day, while the Cowgirls were second.

Carbon County had all their teams have a placer. Rawlins had a first place finish in Brayden Torstenbo who was wrestling at 144. The Outlaw Hudson Baker took 2nd place in 120 weight class and a Saratoga Panther Ace Arnold came in 2nd in the 106 weight class.

All the Carbon County teams that went to Regionals had a tough time and unfortunately none are going any further although some teams just missed the cut.

Wrestling Goes Well for Carbon County at Regionals

“Our weekend at regionals was a good one,” Sterling Arnold, the head coach for Saratoga wrestling, said. “Placing five out eight in the top four will give them a seed at state.”

He was happy to have a 1st place finish.

 “Ace Arnold starts it with a 1st place finish at 106,” the coach said. “This puts him in a really good place to get in the state finals.”

The Encampment High School girls basketball team was forced to forfeit their scheduled game against Little Snake River Valley on Friday night due to a rash of illnesses sweeping through the team’s roster.

The Encampment High School basketball team played on February 13 facing the Saratoga Panthers. The Tigers were the winning cats as Saratoga lost 52 to 44. This win puts Encampment in 3rd place in the conference as regionals are right around the corner.

Girls wrestling is now a part of tournaments. In the Carbon County tournament, Rawlins came in first out of the 11 teams participating and Hanna came in 5th.

“Alaina (McNees) won all her matches,” Head coach Ranelle Hindman said. “This tournament was a good test for her to see how she might do in regionals.”

Rawlins Swim Team Takes Third at 3A South Conference

The Rawlins High School swim team secured a third-place finish at the 3A South Conference meet, scoring 162 points.

Two Outlaws earned silver medals in individual events. Corey Barnes placed second in the 50-meter freestyle, while Logan Wells took second in the 100-meter freestyle.
