“We knew we wanted to do something different from last year, something to do with families and the communities because the Thanksgiving dinner is so expensive,” Kyle Warren, a teacher at Hanna Elementary School (HES) said. “So a Trivia night was tried.”

The Trivia night was held on November 15 starting at 6 p.m.

Last week marked the official Staff Appreciation Week at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School, and the school’s principals, Eli Hobbs and Jackie Jones, came together to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff who make their educational mission possible.

Brendon Reeves was born and raised in Medicine Bow. He graduated from Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School just as COVID made its appearance and canceled his track season. It was a disappointing ending for a senior student-athlete.

Reeves graduated, and he went to college for a sports journalism degree but left after a year and a half.

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School celebrated their 12th annual “Breakfast for Veterans” starting at 8 a.m. on November 9 where all veterans were invited to enjoy a meal of biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, fruit and large cinnamon rolls.

There was a book fair at Hanna Elementary School (HES) last week which was sponsored by Holly Frontier Sinclair (HF Sinclair).

Mary Cushing has been creating a pumpkin patch for students at Hanna Elementary (HES) so she can see former elementary students’ children picking out pumpkins now.

She worked for HES for 38 years before retiring last year. Cushing has been offering students a pumpkin patch for 25 years.

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Middle and High School went on a STEM field trip to the Snowy Mountain Range in late September. STEM education is a teaching approach that combines science, technology, engineering and math.

About a year ago, STEM was expanded and is now known as STEAM. This teaching approach incorporates the arts.

In sports and other school organizations, if a student travels to participate in a school event and doesn’t spend the night, they must pay for their meals. Given that there are many games where the team just travels for a day, there are a lot of meals students on these teams must pay for.

Hanna High School had its 50-year reunion this past weekend during Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School’s homecoming celebration.

The original class had 23 graduates, but seven members of the class have passed on. Most of the remaining students showed up in Hanna on Friday for dinner at the Nugget.
