The Platte Valley Kiwanis is set to host a blood drive in collaboration with Vitalant, a leading nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organization, on March 19, 2024. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church located at 111 North 7th.

A new medical professional has come to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) who specializes in wound care.

Sophie Baxter has extensive experience in this field of medicine although she said when she was younger, her goal was to be a veterinarian. After she worked in an animal rescue, Baxter had her heart broken too many times to make it a career.

Julie Freeman came from Texas to work at a clinic in Northern Carbon County.  She bought a home in Hanna sight unseen and packed up a trailer. She left behind her 37-acre ranch and headed north.

Julie Freeman replaced Peggy Lake, who was the medical provider for the Hanna Clinic until mid-December.

MHCC wishes to inform the citizens of Hanna and the surrounding areas of the following changes regarding clinical care options due to recent changes in provider coverage. 

Working in lunchrooms, I have children with either a wheat allergy or something more troubling, called Celiac disease. Celiac is an illness caused by one’s immune system to gluten. What is gluten? Anyone who makes bread knows that you want it stretchy. You want to be able to put your finger into the dough and have it bounce back after letting it rest for a bit. What causes this reaction is the gluten. It is a protein found in wheat, barley or rye.

Valley Service Organization (VSO) will sponsor a blood drive on January 16 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center. Blood banks are in short supply and donations of your blood can make a difference.

Carey Lake has been the nurse practitioner and general care practitioner at the Medicine Bow Health Center since the end of 2021.

He took the job thinking he would be there forever. Hanna, Wyoming was where he and his wife Peggy, planned to retire.

It was not to be.

Classic Air Medical (CAM) has good news for Carbon County residents. When a resident is life-flighted out by CAM, the cost charged by CAM will be $250.

There was a time when CAM had a subscription service available which was very reasonable for residents. That was changed a couple of years ago.

The Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) in Rawlins has been facing down a reputation from the past, earned roughly 25 years ago, which has made some Carbon County residents nervous about going there for emergency services or operations.

The hospital was not perceived as modern or with good medical personnel for several decades.

The public is invited to attend the presentation called “Understanding Brain Changes & Dementia” at the Platte Valley Community Center on August 21st at 2 p.m. The event is hosted by the North Platte Valley Medical Center and the UW - Wyoming Center on Aging.
