Our City of Lights Gets Brighter for the Holidays

Sinclair can nearly be seen from space with her oil refinery lights lighting up the prairie sky offering a constant landmark for travelers, truckers and locals alike. On Friday, November 22, with the advent of the Advent Season on the Christian calendar, Sinclair started the celebration of the holiday season.

BBQ Ribs, Mac-n-Cheese on Menu for December 2nd ‘Gather at the Table’

Folks looking forward to another mouthwatering home cooked meal will be thrilled with the menu at the next Gather at the Table free dinner Monday, Dec. 2nd, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Topping the menu are barbeque ribs with mac-n-cheese salad, coleslaw, buttermilk cheese cornbread, pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting and a beverage.

Ribbons of Hope is a local Carbon County nonprofit that was formed by several Carbon County residents and is having their third annual Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving in Rawlins and this year, also in Saratoga.

Gary O’ Connell and Tom Murray have grown up in Rawlins together since the 3rd grade and have been best friends since those early years.

They not only went to school together, they joined the Navy together and went in on the buddy system.

This was 1959.

This meant the two got to go to boot camp together.

Friends of the Needy Bazaar Brings in Hundreds to Benefit St. Vincent de Paul

The annual Friends of the Needy Bazaar drew more than 730 people to the Jeffrey Center on Saturday, helping to raise funds for St. Vincent de Paul. Visitors perused handmade crafts, baked goods, jewelry, and holiday items as part of the 30-plus-year tradition of supporting families in need.

On Thursday, October 24, at the Elk Mountain Community Center, formerly the Elk Mountain Elementary School, the annual Pumpkin Patch and Pie Auction was held.

Given that the town has a population of 150 and the turnout looked to be about 200, the event was a success.

Platte Valley Helping Hands (PVHH) will continue to provide their Annual Free Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner this year. The PVHH Board decided to eliminate their sit-down dinner gathering to protect those they serve from possible exposure to a variety of illnesses that spread during this time of year.

Also on the menu is buttered rice and gravy, fried cabbage, pan dressing, sweet potato pie cake and a beverage 

Little Snake Brings the Heat to Help Little Rascals

It was a showdown in Baggs on Friday, October 25, as 17 competitors brought their best chilies to the Community Center, all in the name of some good, clean fun and to raise funds for the Little Rascals Daycare. They came in three styles: red, white and green. With seasoning profiles from mild to wild.
