P.O.W. Flag Stolen

On Memorial Day weekend, the Hanna Senior Center discovered their P.O.W. flag was stolen when it was displayed as a part of the Avenue of the Flags the Center puts up every year to honor the military since the VFW disbanded.

The Center said taking care of the flags is not inexpensive.

Rolling into Retirement after 37 Years Behind the Wheel

Cindy Larson has been in charge of the school buses in the North of Carbon County School District No 2 (CCSD2) for 20 years. She has been driving a school bus for the district for 37 years.

She will be missed.

The North threw her a surprise party at Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School May 12 and Larson admits to being surprised.

It Started with Carbon

Memorial Day celebrations in northern Carbon County started with a Memorial ceremony starting at 10 a.m., at a barn on the Palm Ranch. This historical barn is about seven miles from the ghost town of Carbon and its cemetery.

The barn was chosen as the site of the ceremony because the weather had been calling for rain, and the road to the Carbon Cemetery can get messy.

Not To Be Honored, But To Honor

“I have been a quilter for a long time,” Pierson said. :”I started when my son was born, but I really didn’t start getting into it until I moved to Wyoming when I took a class called Elanor Burns quilt in a day, and I got hooked then.”

Taking Care of Encampment

Mayor Shannon Fagan has been in her position as mayor for two years and before that she was councilmember for Encampment for four years before that.

Fagan was born in California, grew up in Rapid City, South Dakota and went to college at Arizona State University in Tempe, and after graduating from ASU, she moved to Encampment.

Saratoga’s mayor, Chuck Davis is very approachable and he wants the citizens he represents to feel comfortable in touching base with him.

“I grew up in the Valley and I was mayor of Encampment for eight years (the town had two year terms), “ Davis said. “I moved to Saratoga and thought about running a couple of times, but didn’t because my job kept me out of town.”
